Rural Sports Compass

Write for us

We welcome pitches about the people, places and shared practices of rural sport and recreation. Propose a specific reader question, explain why it matters beyond one result or event, and show how you would answer it in clear, grounded language.

Ideas that fit

We are interested in accessible pieces about getting started, club participation, country sporting places, recreation and the traditions that shape local sport. Strong pitches have a distinct angle and offer readers something they can understand or use without specialist knowledge.

What to include

Tell us the working title, the main point, the intended reader and the shape of the piece. Mention what information the article would need and how you would handle uncertainties or details that vary by place. We prefer pitches that can stand on their own rather than broad lists of possible topics.

Sending a proposal

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please pitch the idea rather than submitting a full article unless we have requested one. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication.

Our point of view

Taking part is bigger than the result

Rural sport is made by players, helpers, spectators and the places they share. We look at the many ways people can find a connection to it.
